Inspired by Jack’s determination that “I will skate again,” volunteers established the Jack Jablonski BEL13VE in Miracles Foundation on the first anniversary of Jack's injury (Dec 2012) to help create the next miracle of recovery by advancing research and innovative treatments that will achieve victories over paralysis.
In our first three years of operations, the BEL13VE Foundation awarded nearly $200,000 for medical research grants to the University of Louisville epidural stimulation research project and for scholarships that enable others to participate in the ABLE program at Courage Kenny, a part of the Christopher & Dana Reeve NeuroRecovery Network of rehabilitation centers delivering therapies promoting functional recovery from paralysis.
Beginning in 2016, BEL13VE is partnering with the world-reknowned Mayo Clinic to fund the first patients in an epidural stimulation study to replicate and therby validate the pioneering achievements of Dr. Susan Harkema at the University of Louisville. This replication study, now underway, is an essential step to securing FDA approval for use of epidural stimulation therapy in every-day clinics to acheive paralysis recovery. Six million Americans are waiting for us to complete this step.
